Artist: Feist
Song: The Bad In Each Other
Album: Metals
—
Why this song is awesome:
This song is like heroin! Feist really raised the bar for herself with this one, especially this:
We had the same feelings / At opposite times.
When a good man and a good woman / Can’t find the good in each other / Then a good man and a good woman / Will bring out the worst in the other / The bad in each other
Isn’t that just bloody heartbreaking?

Why this song is awesome:
Listen to this:
Got lost in the places I’ve been / I should go out with my friends / I’d go tonight but I know you’ll be there too
For me, this bottle of wine / Is to slow down my mind / And forget the things that I knew
Who hasn’t been there? Feeling lost and bummed, thinking about how plans and loves can slip through your hands like water.
But it’s amazing how a song this sad can also be so soothing. The sweet melody is like a lullabye that hugs you tight and says: “Don’t worry. You’ll be fine.”
If you know someone that’s having a rough time, wrap them in a blanket, play them this song and watch how soon they start to smile. Promise.

Why this song is awesome:
Songs are special for the same reason that people are special: they surprise you. This song sounds like nothing you’d expect from Silverchair. A haunting melody, an enormous echo on the bass drum, and harmonies that still give me chills.
Remember when every girl in grade 8 went nuts for Daniel Johns? I was jealous then, and I’m jealous now. I wish I could write a line as beautiful as “Those leaving words / Hang strong from an emptiness.” That’s the kind of shit that keeps pre-teen girls up late at night.
